Apparently the North Koreans didn’t expect this:
Mr Smith issued this blunt message to Pyongyang: “They deserve and get nothing other than our absolute condemnation and that condemnation should be echoed around our region and the globe.”
Unconfirmed reports from North Korea indicate that Kim Jong-Il has been surprised and hurt by the Australian response to his nuclear test and is planning to telephone the foreign minister to apologise.
“We’re terribly embarrassed”, the newly-reinstated North Korean ambassador told reporters. “We had no idea you would take it this way.”
“We promise not to do it again.”
