Modern US helps China feel good about being a brutal police state

The “home of the free” is apparently no longer so “free” that one of the world’s most human rights abusing, brutal authoritarian dictatorships can’t produce an only slightly twisted report highlighting the unfortunate state of human rights in the United States.

We barely had to lie at all.

Thanks, Republicans (and, now, Democrats) – in addition to reducing the quality of life of your own people, your continuing heavy-handed response to September 11 and your lack of concern for your poor and disenfranchised helps the regime in China legitimise itself to its oppressed citizens. Well done.

  1. Brutal, human rights abusing…you mean filtering the internet? The link you provided focused on that horror…hang on, does that mean that Conroy will be branded as brutal?…of course not, he’s not one of THEM…everyone knows, and the reactionary leftists promote it too..that commies are evil! You’re just doing your bit for Uncle Sam.. and his propaganda.

  2. continuing heavy-handed response to September 11

The continuing response is about the continuing threat posed by islamic militants. No doubt leftists believe that the only correct response is to assume the position and part their arse-cheeks, but the more sane amongst us are grateful that an attempt is being made to keep us safe. Sadly that attempt is undermined by carping leftists and their obsession with political correctness.

  3. Why do SB’s comments always seem to follow an anal theme?

  4. “The continuing response is about the continuing threat posed by islamic militants.”

speaking of anal themes, “al-queda” is slang for “the toilet” in arabic.. not very convincing haha

  5. An anus is something we all share, and is associated with so many things: satisfaction, relief, pleasure, pain, filth, muck, piles, warts, pungent stench, brown-nosing, submission, constipation, clenching, gerbils and ragged good times in general! It holds shit in and then sprays it all about in groaning ecstasy, enriching the earth or making a nasty mess depending on your point of view.

These are things we can all relate to, making it a ripe subject for allusion and analogy.

  6. Not to mention its an age old primate tradition to settle arguments by flinging shit at each other.

Apes and monkeys do it too. As do humans. All our wars and political bun fights are over what monkeys settled by screeching, flinging their feces at each other and occasionally ripping each other to shreds.

The French must have had some inkling of this when they started naming explosives “petards”.

Its completely appropriate for SB to use the language he does in a political discussion. He’s just following his (and our) genetic heritage.

Some people might think it a little primitive, but ultimately we are primates.

“… but the more sane amongst us are grateful that an attempt is being made to keep us safe.”

No we are appalled that other people’s cowardice is used to undermine our freedom.

  7. Just to clarify, if you are the sort of gutless John Hunt that thinks anti terror laws are more important than limiting the power of the state then YOU are a greater threat to me, my freedom and my “homeland” than any terrorist.

  8. Its completely appropriate for SB to use the language he does in a political discussion. He’s just following his (and our) genetic heritage.

In other words talking shit?

  9. “….ultimately we are primates….”

No, ultimately we are human. SB is of the dickhead sub-species.

  10. Michael Hudson

Here’s a prediction for the biggest US box-office hit of the year: the remake of Red Dawn, in which the invaders are not Russian commies, of course, but Chinese commies.

Glenn Beck will undoubtedly call it a prophetic masterpiece of grim realism and it will run for months.

  11. Last time I checked humans were primates.

  12. “Last time I checked humans were primates.”

Oak trees and thistles are plants, elephants and mice are mammals; doesn’t mean there aren’t fundamental differences. Humans and apes evolved from a common ancestor, but so did all forms of life if you want to get really pedantic about it. Doesn’t mean we’re all ultimately microbes.

  13. “Doesn’t mean we’re all ultimately microbes.”

Well since you brought it up.

    http://www.wired.com/medtech/health/news/2004/10/65252

There are fundamental differences between humans and animals sure, but there are fundamental similarities too.

And the use of feces and urine to mark territory is something most mammals actually engage in. We don’t cos of some fairly serious health issues, but metaphorically we fling shit at each other all the time, especially when discussing politics.

Politics is essentially how we define our symbolic territory, and how we try to define our actual physical territory.

Anyway, since we are being pedantic:

“Humans commonly refers to the species Homo sapiens (Latin: “wise man” or “knowing man”),[3][4] the only extant member of the Homo genus of bipedal primates in Hominidae, the great ape family. However, in some cases the term is used to refer to any member of the genus Homo.”

Thats from wikipedia’s entry for human, which you would hope would be accurate enough for this discussion.

So anyway … believe it or not I think this does apply to the OP but its in danger of veering off topic quite a bit.

Oh, ffs. Are you seriously denying that China has an abysmal human rights record?
