He’s not going to take any crap from those Chinese on whom our economy now entirely depends and in respect of whose vastly more powerful country we have pretty much no leverage whatsoever:
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has warned he will take the case of detained Australian Rio Tinto executive Stern Hu to the highest ranks of China’s Government if necessary.
I’m sure that’ll do the trick. Stern Hu, you’re as good as freed!
Still, it’s good to see the Australian government formally (if futilely) opposing the unjust detention of an Australian citizen by another country. Makes a nice change from the last lot.

It does make a nice change from the last lot. And unlike that case, the Chinese already have laws under which they can charge Mr Hu, they don’t need to have him sit in prison for several years while they work out what to have him plead guilty to.
