It’s long been known that the UAE is a brutally oppressive state, featuring institutionalised slavery and medieval torture.
And yet western professionals keep going over there to work, lured by the shiny facade the tyrants have had their slaves build over the desert. They won’t oppress me – I’m not some poor Indian or Filipino! I’m a westerner! I’ll be fine.

Fairly appalling behaviour by the employers and the system, though. The employer immediately contacts your bank to get your credit cards cancelled! Nice.

Have you got a Wycheproof correspondent to balance things,or are Woolworths at it again!?I notice single people are wanted in Dubai but not Wycheproof,I guess in either place heterosexuality is only enhanced by local customs,where some ritualised acceptance takes place as a must.Unlike Careys!

Actually this demonstrates that Dubai is an advanced society. They even beat john Howard to Workchoices Mk II.
